Harmonious
Harmonious
by Ian Trask

2017

Size: 21 x 3 Inches

Material: piano parts and vaccine vials in a walnut frame

Description

“Some materials demand to be used to very specific ways. For instance when I was given thousands of spent vaccine vials from a veterinarian, the small glass bottles multi-colored tops were the obvious visual focus. A series of work emerged from this collection that presented striking patterns made from the boldly colored caps. Oftentimes though, any art material that sits around the studio long enough screams for reexamination. By flipping the vaccine vials upside down and combining them with piano components, a new and more sophisticated visual narrative was achieved. Like a finely engineered machine frozen in time, Harmonious speaks to both the past and the future of invention, innovation, and progress.”

About Ian Trask
Ian’s visual art has been displayed in the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Recession Art, the Wassaic Project, Bertrand Delacroix Gallery, Bushwick Open Studios and DUMBO Arts Festival to name a few. In 2007 he took a temporary job as a hospital groundskeeper; a job which helped define his approach to artwork and the creative process. He sees the artistic potential of waste, making us consider the mark that we inevitably leave behind. He currently works at the Invisible Dog Studios in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn.
