Tucked back in a secret alley that kisses up to the Gowanus Canal is a peaceful cluster of warehouses. You'll find picnic tables, floral planters hanging over entranceways, people out in the loading docks taking a moment to smoke cigars. And then there's Gowanus Ballroom. Machinery, metal, fire & art. Sexy stuff.
Every time you enter this magical place, it's filled with some new massive work in progress- often colorful and always super-sized, like it's about to make it's way into Walt Disney World's theme park.
But TOMORROW (Friday) is when you should come by. Honk NYC is taking over for the Gowanus Open Studios Gala with live music and you can check out an awesome interactive exhibit by Fiercely Curious artist Ian Trask...
Friday, October 17, 8:00pm – midnight
GOS 2014 Opening Celebration
Gowanus Ballroom, 55 9th Street, Building #61 (enter in back of building)
Art and music (HONK NYC)
$15 at the door.
We stopped by for a sneak peek at Ian Trask's temporary exhibit installed as an interactive piece for GOS only - it's a monster.
And, of course, since there's always magic happening at the Gowanus Ballroom we spied another Fiercely Made artist TJ Volonis working away on some new pieces. (Come see his work this weekend too at 385 4th Ave! RSVP link)
In case you missed the news earlier we have two shows happening this weekend for Gowanus Open Studios! Get all the info here.
Thanks! Erin & Tom xoxo
